Seems like the summer is just flying by with the Fourth of July last week! For the long weekend, Matt and I went on a little getaway to Nashville for our 2 year anniversary. Last year, we went to Bayfield, Wisconsin, which was more of a relaxed, nature-filled trip, so this was a fun change of pace and an awesome city to be in on the Fourth. Frothy Monkey

Location: 12 South

We flew out Wednesday afternoon and my cousin Paige picked us up from the airport and brought us to the 12 South area. There were so many cute shops and houses in this part of town! We went to the Frothy Monkey, which was a coffee shop that also had wine, food, and bakery items. Matt and I shared a wine and cheese combo, which was a fun afternoon treat.

Pharmacy Burger

Location: East Nashville

For dinner, we went over to East Nashville and this restaurant was so stinking good! Their burgers are served on homemade buns from a local bakery and they don’t skimp on the sides, so we had allll the sweet potato fries. The food is delicious and it’s a cute spot with an outdoor eating area and fun vibe. Our Lyft driver told us that East Nashville is the hipster part of town and that’s it’s really been revitalized in the last few years so it was cool to check out this area.

Another Broken Egg

Location: Downtown

Thursday morning, we headed to downtown Nashville for the day and had breakfast at Another Broken Egg. We were chatting to the woman at the front desk at our hotel and she highly recommended this place. Matt got a southwest egg dish and I got the smoked salmon benedict and it was super good. We also tried some biscuit beignets, which were fried biscuits covered in powdered sugar…YUM! It was also our first time trying grits and I liked them with syrup and Matt tried them with hot sauce.

Broadway Street

The rest of Thursday, we spent the whole day in downtown Nashville walking around Broadway Street and listening to live music. All of the musicians are so good and it’s so fun because there is country music everywhere. We also checked out some of the shops in the downtown area and walked on the bridge overlooking downtown Nashville.

Wildhorse Saloon

Location: Downtown

Shoutout to my friend Rachel for the recommendation on this place! They have a large stage where people perform live music throughout the day and during the breaks, they teach free line dancing lessons. Matt and I learned some line dances and got to try them out on their dance floor. It has a great atmosphere and you can go in, grab a beer or app, and listen to good music for hours.

George Jones

Location: Downtown

Matt thought he had died and went to heaven at this southern restaurant with all the good meat and sauces. We got some famous Nashville “hot chicken,” along with brisket and pulled chicken, mac & cheese, and baked beans. It was an amazing southern meal and the live music was so good.

Let Freedom Sing + Fireworks

On the Fourth of July, Broadway Street is shut down and they set up a big stage with live music all day. Sadly, there was some rain on Thursday, but we still were able to listen to most of the concert. Brett Eldredge performed as the headliner and it was so GOOD! After the concert, there was a big firework show over the river, along with music from the Nashville Symphony.

Parthenon and Centennial Park

On Friday morning, we went to check out the Parthenon. It is part of Centennial Park, just west of downtown Nashville and close to Vanderbilt University. We walked around the area during the morning, which was a good change of pace from the busy downtown and a beautiful spot close to the city.

Biscuit Love

Location: The Gulch

We had heard a lot about Biscuit Love, so we had to check it out. There was a long line to get in, but the area was fun to walk around and the line moved fast. Matt had a chicken biscuit sandwich and I got eggs with homemade biscuits and jam, which was very good. After we ate at Biscuit Love, we headed toward the wings mural that was right around the corner. There was also a line to take photos with the mural, but it was a fun spot to see.

Legendairy

Location: Downtown

The rest of Friday, we listened to more music downtown and then made our way to Legendairy for some ice cream and OH MY! If you have a sweet tooth and love all kinds of dessert, this is the place for you. Carm had told me about this place from when she visited Nashville in January and it was so so good. Matt and I shared the “Death by Chocolate,” which for the price and the amount of ice cream, was the perfect choice.

By the time we flew out on Saturday, we were in love with Nashville with its amazing food, endless country music, and fun atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
