Anniversary Trip to Bayfield, WI

At the end of June, Matt and I went to Bayfield, WI for our first year anniversary. We were looking for a trip that would be pretty close, not super spendy, and relaxing. This turned out to be a perfect location and we loved getting to explore the cute coastal town by the Apostle Islands.

If you’re looking for a quick and fun trip, here’s some of the things we did that I would definitely suggest!

Timber Baron Inn

This Airbnb where we stayed was just the best! It was 4 miles outside of town, but located on the top of a hill that looked over all the trees and Lake Superior. There were trails on the property and the couple that owns the Inn was so sweet! They made us breakfast every morning and had s’more stuff available for us for a campfire at night.

Apostle Islands

The Apostle Islands are 21 islands on Lake Superior and you can rent kayaks, canoes, go on sailboats and cruise tours, or ride the ferry to the main island. We went to Madeline Island, which is the only inhabitable island, for dinner one night on the ferry and it was cool to walk around and explore.

Meyers Beach Sea Caves

The sea caves hike was about a 30 min drive from Bayfield and totally worth it. It was a beautiful drive and the hike was amazing. Hiking two miles in took us to a lookout where we could look down into the sea caves and see the beautiful blue water.

Strawberry Picking

Bayfield is known for their fruit, including strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and apples. We picked 11 pounds of strawberries one afternoon and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Matt so excited. They were absolutely delicious and we froze a bunch to have in smoothies, which is great!

Copper Trout

This restaurant is right on the main street and has delicious food. We got a handmade pizza that was incredible and also some Wisconsin cheese curds. The atmosphere is super cool too and it has a boat feel to it.

Fish Fry

On Friday night, many of the restaurants have a fish fry and we went to the Pier Plaza for theirs. It was so delicious and definitely worth a try! The fish was super fresh and came right from Lake Superior.
