Happy 2020!! For New Year’s Eve, we hosted a Roaring 20’s themed party and it was a blast. It was such a fun theme and would be great for a birthday or bachelorette party too! Here are some of our tips for hosting a Roaring 20’s Themed Party:
Create Photo Ops
When everyone is all dressed up, you know there are going to be lots of photos being taken! To make them even more fun, create a photo op or two with a backdrop for people to take their photos. This gives guests a specific spot to take photos and if you add some props in, it can add to the theme too!
We made the photo backdrop below out of black chalk paper from Target. Carm found it in the dollar section, so it was a steal. Then she wrote “The Roaring 20’s” on the top with a white chalk marker and taped up some balloons to add height.
For the other photo backdrop, I found this sparkly tassel hanging from Walgreens for $5 and it was totally a hit at the party. Since the gold really added to the vibe, it was perfect for group photos, especially with the props that we had on the bar cart beside it.
These photo props were at Dollar General and added to the photo fun! If you’re going to have a photo booth area with props, make sure they’re close to the backdrop and tell your guests so that they are able to use them in their photos.
Make a Prohibition Punch
For the punch, we looked up some different prohibition drinks on Pinterest and found the “Bee’s Knees” which had gin, lemon juice, seltzer water, and honey in it. Matt and I have this punch bowl (that also doubles as a cake stand) that we got for our wedding, which works well for parties.
We had plastic glasses and markers for guests to write their name on. This helps cut down on the amount of glasses used and helps people locate their cup!
Signs & Decor
To add to the theme of the party, we created this graphic that we framed that had details about event, movies, and more in 1920. This was a fun way to bring our guests back in time to what life was like during this time period.

Themed Playlist
We found a Great Gatsby / Speakeasy playlist on Spotify and it was a perfect addition to the party and really set the vibe.
We had an awesome time! It was a really a fun theme and we can’t wait for our next party 🙂
