Our Guide to Duluth, MN

For our family vacation this year, we headed up north to Duluth. It was a perfect weekend getaway and we had fun hanging out as a fam and seeing Minnesota in it’s prime. For our honeymoon last year, Matt and I also went to Duluth, so our recommendations come from both trips! Here’s our guide to Duluth, MN:

Fun

Gooseberry Falls

Located just north of Two Harbors, this State Park on the North Shore has some great views and fun day hikes. We hiked to Fifth Falls and got to see some beautiful waterfalls along the way.

Glensheen Mansion

We did the self-guided tour at Glensheen and it was pretty cool to learn about the history of the property and see the mansion. Depending on when you are in Duluth, check for free events going on. Last year, Matt and I went to a free concert on the pier where you could walk the grounds and listen to a local Duluth band, which was really fun.

Canal Park

This is where the Lift Bridge is located, as well as multiple piers with lighthouses, and lots of cute shops and fun restaurants. There’s a trail that goes along the shoreline and ends at Canal Park that is great to run, walk, or bike on too.

Enger Tower

Located on the top of a hill in Duluth, this tower provides an incredible view of Duluth, Canal Park, and Lake Superior. It’s a great way to see the town from a higher point and there is also a beautiful garden to walk around for a peaceful afternoon.

Vista Fleet

If you’re looking for a fun date night or something different, the Vista Fleet has a few different cruises on Lake Superior. Most have food and are a couple hours long, it was a cool experience and being out on the water was a really fun.

Food

Betty’s Pies

Along the North Shore, you’ll find this amazing restaurant. They have the BEST milkshakes and you can get them with a piece of pie mixed with the ice cream. Their pies are made with fresh fruit…so good!

Canal Park Brewing

This brewery has an awesome atmosphere and some great food. They also offer flights of beer so you can try some of their unique flavors. It’s also right in Canal Park and has tons of windows so you get a great view of Lake Superior.

Va Bene

Our friend Liana recommended this Italian place and it was so delicious. Carm said it reminded her of studying abroad and being in Italy, so you know it’s good. This place is in a cool area and after we finished eating, we walked by Lake Superior and it was beautiful.

Little Angie’s Cantina

This Mexican restaurant is in the heart of Canal Park and has some dang good food. Their chips and salsa are delicious and they have some unique dishes that you won’t find elsewhere.
